Temporomandibular Joint Treatment (TMJ)

Temporomandibular Joint Treatment (TMJ)

Dental and jaw misalignments often strain the jaw joints because the bite is incorrect. The consequences can include jaw pain, headaches, back and neck pain, tension, and postural issues. This condition is known as a functional disorder or Craniomandibular Dysfunction (CMD).

Through a functional analysis, which is also part of orthodontic diagnostics, we investigate your complaints. We examine the interaction of the jaw joints, teeth, and muscles and identify any dysfunctions.

Special Expertise

Dr. Schamiem Stumpfe has completed a curriculum (a comprehensive training series) in CMD diagnostics with the renowned orthodontist and oral surgeon Prof. Dr. Axel Bumann and is highly experienced in this field.

Splint Therapy for CMD Treatment

If CMD is present, splint therapy may be recommended in addition to "normal" orthodontic treatment. The custom-made splints, depending on the indication, correct the bite, relieve joints and muscles, or position the lower jaw correctly.
